How I Made 100+ Successful Trades

I love trading.

I’ve been doing it for a long time.  It started with sports cards in 4th grade.  By 6th grade, I had fully switched to trading Pokémon and Magic: the Gathering.  And so it continues today.

It’s understandable, then, that once my collection was on Murfie, I quickly became addicted to trading my CDs.  I love trading so much that I am happy to say I recently made my 100th trade on Murfie!

What was the trade?  I traded away my copy of Exile in Guyville by Liz Phair for a copy of Miles: The New Miles Davis Quintet.  This brings me one step closer to my goal of collecting the entire Miles Davis studio album discography.

What a deal!

How did I do it?  By simply remembering that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, honestly.  My collection is full of things I accumulated over the years that I really don’t care about anymore.  If I’m not digging that Barenaked Ladies CD my mom bought me in high school, there’s probably someone out there who feels the same about their old jazz CDs.

The trick is making offers and waiting for someone to bite!  To complete 100 successful trades, I initiated about 300 trades and received about 20 incoming trades.  That means that for every three trades I’m interested in making, I’m likely to complete one of them.

The odds are pretty good, if you ask me, and you’ll never know what awesome deals you’ll get.

Squawk! Hawk Your Murfie Shop on Twitter (Squawk!)

In fact, one of the golden rules of making more CD sales on Murfie is plugging your shop on social media. That’s really our biggest piece of advice. Giving a shout-out to your Murfie collection on twitter or facebook—thereby shoving it in front of more eyeballs—can only help you increase sales and attract new customers.

Plus, your old pal Murfie will be there to help. You tweet your shop; Murfie tweets it too. That’s an ironclad guarantee.

Pro Tip: Access Your Murfie Player on Your iPad

Our Developer team has just rolled out a neat upgrade to our “mini player” for Murfie Gold subscribers. The player is now officially a pop-out player, which gives you the option to continue listening to your music while browsing other web pages. Say it with me: three cheers for multitasking!

Own an iPad? Keep listening. We’ve got a pro tip for you… There exists a clever little trick that’ll make accessing your Murfie player on your iPad a breeze. So if you’ve got an iPad on hand, whip it out and follow along:

1. Open Safari and go to Murfie.com.
2. Log into your Murfie account and tap the player’s “pop out” button –> this loads your player in a new tab.
3. On the left side of the address bar, tap the “curved arrow” send-to button.
4. Select “Add to home screen.”

There, now you have an icon on your tablet’s home screen. Tapping that will launch you straight into a full-screen version of your mini player. Done and done! Let the good times roll.

How-to: search your library, shuffle your mini player

Excellent news for all you music collectors. We just rolled out two new features that add more functionality to your music library and mini player on Murfie.

The first, a search box in your music library. This one’s a long time coming, and we’re so very happy to introduce it to your disc-collection view on Murfie. To give it a try, just head on over to the “My Library” tab in your Murfie account, and use the search box to locate any disc in your collection, by artist or album name.

The second, a shuffle button in your music streaming “mini player”—you’ll have this if you’ve gone Murfie Gold. Just open up the “My Music” tab to view, filter, listen to and now shuffle all the discs in your library. Hit the shuffle button to keep things fresh and you on your toes, and make sure to check out our marketplace to add some fresh music to your library. (Side note: we now have 203,209 discs up for sale/trade!)

How-to: filter your mini player

We’re pretty darn excited to announce that, today, we just rolled out another brand new feature. This one goes out to all the fine folks who’ve upgraded to music streaming on Murfie—you can now filter your mini player, by artist or album title, in real time!

We think that’s pretty great (do you?)…because having a filter function makes it a heck of a lot easier, and faster, to find the album you want to listen to. That’s just our opinion, though. Let us know what you think on facebook and twitter—we sincerely lurve hearing your fresh and honest feedback.

Now, let’s get down to some brass tacks. Here’s a few tips on how to use our music streaming “mini player”:

• You can stream any album in your Murfie music library, from any web browser.
• When signed into your Mufie account, you should see a “My Music” tab at the bottom of your browser—just open this “mini player” to view, filter and listen to all the discs in your library.
• Some of your discs may not yet be ready for streaming; instead they’re processing. As soon as the “Processing” label disappears, the disc is ready for streaming!
